The message to the Laodiceans is applicable to Seventh-day Adventists who have had great light and have not walked in the light. It is those who have made great profession, but have not kept in step with their Leader, that will be spewed out of His mouth unless they repent. 2SM 66.2
2SM – Vybraná poselství, 2. svazek 66.2 Poselství Laodicejským se vztahuje na adventisty sedmého dne, kteří měli velké světlo, ale nechodili v něm. Jsou to právě ti, kteří měli velké řeči, ale nedrželi krok se svým Vůdcem, kteří budou vyvrženi z Jeho úst, jestliže nebudou činit pokání.
Christ sees that which man does not see. He sees the sins which, if not repented of, will exhaust the patience of a long-suffering God. Christ cannot take up the names of those who are satisfied in their own self-sufficiency. He cannot importune in behalf of a people who feel no need of His help, who claim to know and possess everything (The Review and Herald, July 23, 1889). 7BC 964.6
7BC – Biblický komentář, 7. svazek 964.6 Kristus vidí to, co člověk nevidí. Vidí hříchy, které, pokud jich člověk nebude litovat, vyčerpají trpělivost Boha pomalého k hněvu. Kristus nemůže přijmout lidi, kteří jsou spokojeni s tím, že si vystačí sami. Nemůže prosit jménem lidí, kteří necítí potřebu jeho pomoci, kteří tvrdí, že všechno znají a mají (The Review and Herald, 23. července 1889).
There is nothing so offensive to God or so dangerous to the human soul as pride and self-sufficiency. Of all sins it is the most hopeless, the most incurable. COL 154.4
COL – Kristova podobenství 154.4 Pýcha a nadřazenost je Bohu odporná nade vše a pro lidské nitro je nebezpečná jako nic jiného. Ze všech hříchů je nejhůře léčitelná a téměř beznadějná. (srv. PM 77.3)
Were you cold, there would be some hope that you would be converted; but where self-righteousness girds one about, instead of the righteousness of Christ, the deception is so difficult to be seen…. An unconverted, godless sinner stands in a more favorable condition than such. 2T 175.3
2T – Svědectví pro církev, 2. svazek 175.3 Kdybys byl studený, byla by tu jistá naděje, že se obrátíš, ale tam, kde člověka místo Kristovy spravedlnosti obepíná samospravedlnost, je tak těžké vidět klam…. To neobrácený, bezbožný hříšník se nachází v mnohem příhodnějším stavu.
There are many, many, professed Christians who are waiting unconcernedly for the coming of the Lord. They have not on the garment of His righteousness. They may profess to be children of God, but they are not cleansed from sin. They are selfish and self-sufficient. Their experience is Christless. They neither love God supremely nor their neighbor as themselves. They have no true idea of what constitutes holiness. They do not see the defects in themselves. So blinded are they, that they are not able to detect the subtle working of pride and iniquity. They are clad in the rags of self-righteousness, and stricken with spiritual blindness. Satan has cast his shadow between them and Christ, and they have no wish to study the pure, holy character of the Saviour. RH February 26, 1901, par. 10
RH – časopis Review and Herald, 26. února 1901, odst. 10 Je mnoho, mnoho vyznavačů křesťanství, kteří bezstarostně čekají na příchod Pána. Nemají na sobě roucho Jeho spravedlnosti. Možná vyznávají, že jsou Božími dětmi, ale nejsou očištěni od hříchu. Jsou sobečtí a soběstační. Jejich zkušenost postrádá Krista. Nemilují Boha nadevše ani svého bližního jako sebe sama. Nemají správnou představu o tom, co svatost obnáší. Nevidí na sobě nedostatky. Jsou tak zaslepení, že nejsou schopni odhalit rafinované působení pýchy a nepravosti. Jsou oděni do hadrů samospravedlnosti a stiženi duchovní slepotou. Satan mezi ně a Krista vrhl svůj stín. Nemají žádnou touhu či chuť studovat Spasitelův čistý, svatý charakter.
I have tried in the fear of God to set before His people their danger and their sins, and have endeavored, to the best of my feeble powers, to arouse them. I have stated startling things, which, if they had believed, would have caused them distress and terror, and led them to zeal in repenting of their sins and iniquities. 2T 445.2
2T – Svědectví pro církev, 2. svazek 445.2 V bázni před Bohem jsem se pokusila představit Jeho lidu jejich nebezpečí a hříchy a podle svých skromných sil jsem se je snažila vyburcovat. Prohlásila jsem překvapivé věci, které by v nich, kdyby uvěřili, vyvolaly úzkost a zděšení a přiměly by je k horlivému pokání z jejich hříchů a nepravostí.
Some will not bear this straight testimony. They will rise up against it, and this is what will cause a shaking among God’s people. EW 270.2
I saw that the testimony of the True Witness has not been half heeded. The solemn testimony upon which the destiny of the church hangs has been lightly esteemed, if not entirely disregarded. This testimony must work deep repentance; all who truly receive it will obey it and be purified. EW 270.3
EW – Ranné spisy 270.2 Někteří toto přímé svědectví nesnesou. Povstanou proti němu, a to způsobí mezi Božím lidem tříbení.
EW – Ranné spisy 270.3 Viděla jsem, že svědectví Pravého svědka nebylo vyslyšeno ani z poloviny. Slavnostní svědectví, na němž závisí osud církve, bylo zlehčováno, ne-li zcela přehlíženo. Toto svědectví musí působit hluboké pokání. Všichni, kteří jej doopravdy přijmou, mu budou poslušni a dojdou očištění.
A failure to follow the clear light of truth is our fearful danger. The message to the Laodicean church reveals our condition as a people. RH December 15, 1904, par. 9

The Holy Spirit strives to make apparent the claims of God, but men pay heed only for a moment, and turn their minds to other things: Satan catches away the seeds of truth; the gracious influence of the Spirit of God is effectually resisted. RH – časopis Review and Herald, 23. prosince 1890, odst. 11 Duch svatý se snaží zjevit Boží nároky, ale lidé mu věnují pozornost jen na chvíli a obracejí svou mysl k jiným věcem: Satan odchytává semínka pravdy a účinně brání milostivému vlivu Božího Ducha. Takto mnozí rmoutí Ducha svatého a nevědí, že je to naposledy.
There are many who are priding themselves upon their spiritual riches, their knowledge of the truth, and are living in guilty self-deception. RH December 23, 1890, par. 14

There is to be in the churches a wonderful manifestation of the power of God, but it will not move upon those who have not humbled themselves before the Lord, and opened the door of the heart by confession and repentance. In the manifestation of that power which lightens the earth with the glory of God, they will see only something which in their blindness they think dangerous, something which will arouse their fears, and they will brace themselves to resist it. Because the Lord does not work according to their ideas and expectations, they will oppose the work. “Why,” they say, “should not we know the Spirit of God, when we have been in the work so many years?”—Because they did not respond to the warnings, the entreaties of the messages of God, but persistently said, “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing.” RH December 23, 1890, par. 18
RH – časopis Review and Herald, 23. prosince 1890, odst. 18 Ve sborech se má podivuhodně projevit Boží moc, ale ta se nedotkne těch, kdo se před Pánem nepokořili a neotevřeli dveře srdce skrze vyznání hříchů a pokání. V projevu oné moci, která osvětluje zemi Boží slávou, uvidí jen něco, co ve své zaslepenosti považují za nebezpečné, něco, co v nich vzbudí strach, a budou se připravovat na odpor. Protože Pán nepůsobí podle jejich představ a očekávání, budou se tomuto dílu bránit. Říkají: „Proč bychom neměli poznat Ducha Božího, když jsme v díle už tolik let?“ – Protože nereagovali na varování, na prosby Božích poselství, ale vytrvale říkali: Zjevení 3:17 „Jsem bohatý, zbohatl jsem, nic nepotřebuji.“
All who venture to have their own way, who do not join the angels who are sent from heaven with a message to fill the whole earth with its glory, will be passed by. The work will go forward to victory without them, and they will have no part in its triumph. RH December 23, 1890, par. 22
RH – časopis Review and Herald, 23. prosince 1890, odst. 22 Všichni, kdo se odváží jít svou vlastní cestou a nepřipojí se k andělům poslaným z nebe s poselstvím, aby zaplnilo celou zemi svou slávou, budou opomenuti. Dílo bude pokračovat kupředu k vítězství bez nich a oni se na jeho triumfu nebudou podílet.
And I saw that the Lord was whetting His sword in heaven to cut them down. Oh, that every lukewarm professor could realize the clean work that God is about to make among His professed people! 1T 189.2
1T – Svědectví pro církev, 1. svazek 189.2 A viděla jsem, že Pán v nebi brousí svůj meč, aby je setnul. Kéž by si každý vlažný vyznavač Božího jména uvědomil, jak čisté dílo se Bůh chystá vykonat mezi lidem, který se k Němu hlásí!
There is yet a chance to remedy their state, and the Laodicean message is full of encouragement; for the backslidden church may yet buy the gold of faith and love, may yet have the white robe of the righteousness of Christ, that the shame of their nakedness need not appear. Purity of heart, purity of motive, may yet characterize those who are half-hearted and who are striving to serve God and Mammon. They may yet wash their robes of character and make them white in the blood of the Lamb. RH August 28, 1894, par. 3
RH – časopis Review and Herald, 28. srpna 1894, odst. 3 Ještě je šance napravit jejich stav. Laodicejské poselství je plné povzbuzení, neboť odpadlá církev si ještě může koupit zlato víry a lásky, může ještě získat bílé roucho Kristovy spravedlnosti, aby se nemusela ukázat hanba její nahoty. Čistota srdce, čistota pohnutek může ještě charakterizovat ty, kdo jsou polovičatí a snaží se sloužit Bohu i Mamonu. Ještě mohou vyprat svá charakterová roucha a vybělit je v krvi Beránka.
“Return unto Me, and I will return unto thee, and will heal all thy backslidings.” 1T 143.3
Some, I saw, would gladly return. Others will not let this message to the Laodicean church have its weight upon them. They will glide along, much after the same manner as before, and will be spewed out of the mouth of the Lord. Those only who zealously repent will have favor with God. 1T 144.1

1T – Svědectví pro církev, 1. svazek 144.1 Viděla jsem, že někteří se rádi vrátí. Jiní nedovolí, aby na ně toto poselství laodicejské církvi zapůsobilo. Budou pokračovat dále, stejně jako předtím a budou vyvrženi z úst Pána. Pouze ti, kdo horlivě činí pokání, získají u Boha přízeň.
