Matouš 26:36-39 36Tehdy s nimi Ježíš přišel na místo zvané Getsemane a řekl učedníkům: “Posaďte se zde, zatímco se tamhle odejdu pomodlit.” 37Vzal s sebou Petra a oba Zebedeovy syny; tu se začal rmoutit a znepokojovat. 38Pak jim řekl: “Má duše je smutná až k smrti. Zůstaňte zde a bděte se mnou.” 39A trochu poodešel, padl na tvář, modlil se a říkal: “Můj Otče, jeli to možné, ať mne mine tento kalich. Avšak ne jak já chci, ale jak chceš ty.”
Jesus had been earnestly conversing with His disciples and instructing them; but as He neared Gethsemane, He became strangely silent. He had often visited this spot for meditation and prayer; but never with a heart so full of sorrow as upon this night of His last agony. Throughout His life on earth He had walked in the light of God’s presence. When in conflict with men who were inspired by the very spirit of Satan, He could say, “He that sent Me is with Me: the Father hath not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.” John 8:29. But now He seemed to be shut out from the light of God’s sustaining presence. Now He was numbered with the transgressors. The guilt of fallen humanity He must bear. Upon Him who knew no sin must be laid the iniquity of us all. So dreadful does sin appear to Him, so great is the weight of guilt which He must bear, that He is tempted to fear it will shut Him out forever from His Father’s love. Feeling how terrible is the wrath of God against transgression, He exclaims, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death.” DA 685.2
DA – Touha věků 685.2 Ježíš hovořil s učedníky. Byl k nim otevřený a dával jim další ponaučení. Když se však blížili ke Getsemane, zvláštně ztichl. Často přicházel do těchto míst, rozjímal tam a modlil se. Nikdy však nebyl tak naplněný zármutkem jako tuto noc. Prožíval svůj poslední zápas. Po celou dobu svého pozemského života chodil ve světle Boží přítomnosti. Když se dostal do sporu s lidmi, které ovládal satanův duch, mohl říci: Jan 8,29 “A ten, kdo mne poslal, je se mnou; nezanechal mne samotného, protože já stále činím to, co se jemu líbí.” Nyní se však zdálo, jako by Jej posilující světlo Boží přítomnosti opustilo. Byl započten mezi hříšníky. Sám musel nést tíhu viny padlého lidstva. Nikdy se neposkvrnil hříchem a nyní na Něho byly vloženy nepravosti nás všech. Hřích se Mu zdál být strašný a tíha viny, kterou na sebe vzal, pro Něho byla nepředstavitelně těžká. Pokoušela Jej obava, že by Ho toto břemeno mohlo navždy odloučit od lásky Jeho Otce. Dobře věděl, jak hrozný je Boží hněv proti přestoupení. Proto zvolal: Matouš 26,38 “Má duše je smutná až k smrti.” (srv. TV 437.2)
As they approached the garden, the disciples had marked the change that came over their Master. Never before had they seen Him so utterly sad and silent. As He proceeded, this strange sadness deepened; yet they dared not question Him as to the cause. His form swayed as if He were about to fall. Upon reaching the garden, the disciples looked anxiously for His usual place of retirement, that their Master might rest. Every step that He now took was with labored effort. He groaned aloud, as if suffering under the pressure of a terrible burden. Twice His companions supported Him, or He would have fallen to the earth. DA 685.3
DA – Touha věků 685.3 Když se přiblížili k zahradě, všimli si učedníci změny, která se s jejich Mistrem stala. Nikdy předtím Jej neviděli tak smutného a zamlklého. Ježíšova sklíčenost se s každým krokem prohlubovala. Učedníci se však neodvážili zeptat, co Jej trápí. Ježíš se zapotácel, jako by na Něho přišly mdloby. Když vešli do zahrady, učedníci úzkostlivě hledali místo, kde obvykle sedávali, aby si jejich Mistr mohl odpočinout. Každý krok Jej stál mnoho námahy. Hlasitě si povzdechl, jako by klesal pod tíhou strašlivého břemena. Dvakrát Ho museli podepřít, aby se nesesunul k zemi. (srv. TV 437.3)
He went a little distance from them—not so far but that they could both see and hear Him—and fell prostrate upon the ground. He felt that by sin He was being separated from His Father. The gulf was so broad, so black, so deep, that His spirit shuddered before it. This agony He must not exert His divine power to escape. As man He must suffer the consequences of man’s sin. As man He must endure the wrath of God against transgression. DA 686.3
DA – Touha věků 686.3 Potom poodešel, ale stále Jej mohli vidět a slyšet. Padl tváří k zemi. Cítil, jak Jej hřích odděluje od Otce. Propast Mu připadala tak veliká, hluboká a temná, že se jí zhrozil. V tomto smrtelném zápasu však nesmí použít svou božskou moc. Jako člověk musí nést následky lidského hříchu. Musí na sobě zakusit Boží hněv proti přestoupení. (srv. TV 438.3)
Christ was now standing in a different attitude from that in which He had ever stood before. His suffering can best be described in the words of the prophet, “Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is My fellow, saith the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 13:7. As the substitute and surety for sinful man, Christ was suffering under divine justice. He saw what justice meant. Hitherto He had been as an intercessor for others; now He longed to have an intercessor for Himself. DA 686.4
DA – Touha věků 686.4 Kristus se nyní octl v naprosto nové situaci. Jeho utrpení nejvýstižněji popisují slova proroctví: Zacharjáš 13,7 “Probuď se, meči, proti mému pastýři, proti mému druhu, je výrok Hospodina zástupů.” Jako zástupce hříšníků a jejich záruka zakoušel Boží spravedlnost. Sám na sobě poznal, co to znamená. Až dosud se přimlouval za druhé, nyní toužil po tom, aby se někdo přimlouval za Něho. (srv. TV 438.4)
As Christ felt His unity with the Father broken up, He feared that in His human nature He would be unable to endure the coming conflict with the powers of darkness. In the wilderness of temptation the destiny of the human race had been at stake. Christ was then conqueror. Now the tempter had come for the last fearful struggle. For this he had been preparing during the three years of Christ’s ministry. Everything was at stake with him. If he failed here, his hope of mastery was lost; the kingdoms of the world would finally become Christ’s; he himself would be overthrown and cast out. But if Christ could be overcome, the earth would become Satan’s kingdom, and the human race would be forever in his power. With the issues of the conflict before Him, Christ’s soul was filled with dread of separation from God. Satan told Him that if He became the surety for a sinful world, the separation would be eternal. He would be identified with Satan’s kingdom, and would nevermore be one with God. DA 686.5
DA – Touha věků 686.5 Kristus cítil, že Jeho jednota s Otcem je narušena a zmocnila se Ho obava, že ve své lidské přirozenosti nebude schopen v nastávajícím boji s mocnostmi zla obstát. Při pokušení na poušti se rozhodovalo o osudu celého lidstva. Kristus tehdy zvítězil. Nyní pokušitel nastoupil ke strašlivému poslednímu boji. Připravoval se na to po celé tři roky Kristovy služby. Šlo mu o všechno. Pokud bude poražen, ztratí naději na vládu, království tohoto světa připadnou s konečnou platností Kristu a on sám bude svržen a vyhnán. Pokud však Krista přemůže, stala by se země jeho královstvím a lidstvo by měl navždy ve své moci. Kristus si plně uvědomoval závažnost tohoto konfliktu a děsil se odloučení od Boha. Satan Mu namlouval, že pokud na sebe vezme hříchy světa a stane se zárukou lidstva, bude od Boha odloučen navěky. Stane se součástí satanova království a již nikdy nebude jedno s Bohem. (srv. TV 438.5)
And what was to be gained by this sacrifice? How hopeless appeared the guilt and ingratitude of men! In its hardest features Satan pressed the situation upon the Redeemer: The people who claim to be above all others in temporal and spiritual advantages have rejected You. They are seeking to destroy You, the foundation, the center and seal of the promises made to them as a peculiar people. One of Your own disciples, who has listened to Your instruction, and has been among the foremost in church activities, will betray You. One of Your most zealous followers will deny You. All will forsake You. Christ’s whole being abhorred the thought. That those whom He had undertaken to save, those whom He loved so much, should unite in the plots of Satan, this pierced His soul. The conflict was terrible. Its measure was the guilt of His nation, of His accusers and betrayer, the guilt of a world lying in wickedness. The sins of men weighed heavily upon Christ, and the sense of God’s wrath against sin was crushing out His life. DA 687.1
DA – Touha věků 687.1 Co měl Kristus svou obětí získat? Provinění lidí a jejich nevděčnost se zdály být beznadějné. Satan líčil Vykupiteli situaci v nejčernějších barvách: Lid, který se hlásí k mimořádným hmotným i duchovním požehnáním, tě zavrhl. Chce tě zničit, tebe — základ, středobod a pečeť všech zaslíbení, jež jako zvláštní lid obdržel. Jeden z učedníků, který naslouchal tvému učení a zastává v církvi významné postavení, tě zradí. Jeden z tvých nejhorlivějších následovníků tě zapře. Všichni tě opustí. Takové pomyšlení Krista děsilo. Představa, že ti, které přišel zachránit a které tolik miloval, se spojí se satanem, Mu drásala nitro. Zápas, kterým procházel, byl strašlivý. Měřítkem jeho nepředstavitelné tíhy byla vina Jeho národa, žalobců a zrádce, vina celého bezbožného světa. Hříchy lidstva na Krista těžce doléhaly a vědomí, že Boží hněv je namířen proti hříchu, Jej drtivě sužovalo. (srv. TV 438.6)
Christ [on the cross] felt much as sinners will feel when the vials of God’s wrath shall be poured out upon them. Black despair like the pall of death will gather about their guilty souls, and then they will realize to the fullest extent the sinfulness of sin. ST February 15, 1883, par. 4
ST – časopis Znamení doby, 15. února 1883, odst. 4 Kristus [na kříži] zakusil totéž, co pocítí hříšníci, až na ně Bůh vylije číši svého hněvu. Jejich provinilé nitro obklopí temná beznaděj podobná závoji smrti a oni si pak v plné míře uvědomí závažnost hříchu.
Behold Him contemplating the price to be paid for the human soul. In His agony He clings to the cold ground, as if to prevent Himself from being drawn farther from God. The chilling dew of night falls upon His prostrate form, but He heeds it not. From His pale lips comes the bitter cry, “O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me.” Yet even now He adds, “Nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” DA 687.2
DA – Touha věků 687.2 Pohleďte na to, jak [Kristus] uvažoval o ceně, kterou je třeba za záchranu člověka zaplatit. Ve smrtelné úzkosti padl tváří k chladné zemi, jako by se chtěl bránit odloučení od Boha. Na Jeho vyčerpané tělo se snášela studená noční rosa, ale On ji nevnímal. Z Jeho bledých rtů se ozval bolestný výkřik: Matouš 26,39 “Můj Otče, jeli to možné, ať mne mine tento kalich.” I v této chvíli však dodal: “Avšak ne jak já chci, ale jak chceš ty.” (srv. TV 438.7)
The human heart longs for sympathy in suffering. This longing Christ felt to the very depths of His being. In the supreme agony of His soul He came to His disciples with a yearning desire to hear some words of comfort from those whom He had so often blessed and comforted, and shielded in sorrow and distress. The One who had always had words of sympathy for them was now suffering superhuman agony, and He longed to know that they were praying for Him and for themselves. How dark seemed the malignity of sin! Terrible was the temptation to let the human race bear the consequences of its own guilt, while He stood innocent before God. If He could only know that His disciples understood and appreciated this, He would be strengthened. DA 687.3
DA – Touha věků 687.3 Člověk, který trpí, touží po soucitu. Také Kristus pocítil tuto touhu z celé hloubi svého nitra. V nejtěžší chvíli svého utrpení přišel k učedníkům, kterým tak často žehnal, které chránil a potěšoval v zármutku a tísni. Pevně doufal, že od nich uslyší slova útěchy a povzbuzení. Sám jim vždy projevoval svůj soucit. Nyní prožíval nadlidská muka a chtěl mít jistotu, že se za Něho i za sebe modlí. Cítil, jak strašlivá je temnota hříchu. Doléhalo na Něho pokušení zůstat před Bohem nevinný a nechat lidstvo, aby samo neslo následky svých provinění. Kdyby věděl, že to učedníci chápou a oceňují, nesmírně by Ho to posílilo. (srv.
